The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.
Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes will gain the ability to contest specific decisions from the official, echoing the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step follows just a year after the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which brought an end to the 147-year tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.
Practical Application
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
